The Military Courtesy Room is named after Gregory J. Harris a local Marine who was capture during the Vietnam War and is still listed as unaccounted from by the Department of Defense.   Harris was captured on June 12, 1966 in the area of Mo Duc, Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam.   He was never seen again according to the Department of Defense's Defense Prisoner of War Missing Personnel Office (DPMO).

Since 1966 Greg's family, beginning with his mother, Catherine Harris, followed by his grandfather, Gregory McDonald of Fulton and then multiple relatives, have all done battle with the DoD for answers.  In recent years, due to the family's diligence, Greg's case has now been considered a high profile case by the DoD.  A case that was once considered a cold case, is presently being investigated again and hope has been rekindled.

When Loren Davies and Leroy Bowen were establishing the MCR, they decided to name the MCR after one of their own.  Within the military, there is a solemn solidarity among active military and the heroes of the past.  The motto of 'leave no man behind' is not just words, it is a promise that transcends generations, military branches and location of service.

The MCR maintains a binder which details Greg's life and the details of his POW/MIA case.  it is a fascinating read and troops are often seen reading about Greg while they wait for their flights or transportation.  A special thank you to the Harris/McDonald Family for allowing the MCR to be named after their hero.

The family maintains a blog which they update from time to time with the details of their battle with the DoD over Case #0358 - Harris, Gregory J.
